Deirdre Burns’s Biography
Deirdre Burns started painting in middle age and was subsequently admitted on direct entry to art college (University of Ulster). Deirdre spent her time there painting mostly abstract oils, using nature's elements as her theme.
Graduating with a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art, she came back to a more representational and to her more satisfying way of painting nature and the elements in landscape.
Remote places in County Down and especially Donegal, with its atmosphere of timelessness are particularly inspirational to her.
She also paints the occasional still life when a subject takes her fancy and recently has added soft pastels to her repertoire.
Her work is shown largely in Group Exhibitions including The Royal Ulster Academy, The Arts Society of Ulster and several successful exhibitions with her daughters Glynis Burns and Alison Burns.
Deirdre attributes much of her knowledge of painting to her late husband landscape artist W H Burns.
Born a Scot, she has lived in Belfast most of her life and is the daughter of a portrait and poster artist.
