Derek Melville’s Biography Born 1965
In recent years, the name Derek Melville has become synonymous with contemporary Irish scenes painted in rich, vibrant colours. He takes his inspiratrion from the form and shape of his own country and is drawn intrinsically to the wild and timeless beauty, giving a modern twist to the ancient landscape. Derek has travelled extensively through Ireland exploring the rolling peatbogs, mountains and winding roads looking for the natural form it provides and the shapes the eye is led to by the windblown trees, old stone walls and the classic gable forms. He looks for a tranquility and calmness in the land and the part man has played on it. It is the nature and outdoors that appeals to him, combined with the colour and movement of the paint.
His versatility also extends to a tranquility and calmness in his still-life interpretations. His figurative work is bold and distinctive.
He is a much respected artist with a rapidlly expanding clientele locally and internationally. Derek has exhibited in his own successful solo exhibitions annually since 2000 and his work has now been commissioned by the London based international company 'The Artgroup'.
In February 2005 his work was launched at the NEC International Artfair Birmingham by the Artgroup and his work is in private and public collections.
Derek was born Belfast in 1965 and now enjoys a rural lifestyle in the rolling County Down drumlins, spending time with his wife and three young children.
