Desmond Monroe’s Biography
Desmond was born in 1943. He has always had an interest in drawing, and he started painting in 1964. He attended art classes for several years at Newtownabbey Technical College, and has been a chairman of both Glengormley and Carrickfergus Art Clubs.
Due to the high interest in his work he turned professional in 1993. He presently teaches art at Downshire School, Carrickfergus. Desmond also gives demonstrations of painting at most local art clubs.
There is a calm and peace about Desmond's paintings, and he has attained an uncanny ability to capture the ever-changing moods of our Irish landscape, whether in the Mournes, Connemara, Donegal or the Antrim Coast.
In 1995 Desmond was among the Morton Newspaper Award winners in a province-wide art competition. Some of his work is in the private collections of Wiggins Teape and the Department of the Environment.
His work can also be found in collections in the UK, Australia, Canada, America and Kenya.
