Jenny Baird - Biography
Jenny began printmaking in 1996 while still attending Glenlola Collegiate School in Bangor. That same year her print ‘Metamorphosis’ won the prize for the most original print in the Royal Ulster Academy of Arts exhibition. She has since won the Royal Ulster Academy of Arts print prize for the second time in 2002, with her ‘Jumping Tulips’ monoprint. In 1996 Jenny also won the Sixth National Open Print Exhibition.
Jenny has a unique style and works almost entirely in monoprinting. This technique involves painting an image directly onto a printing plate and rolling it through the printing press on to the paper. Only one print can be produced at a time, meaning that each is an original and there can be no two prints exactly the same.
Jenny gains her inspiration from every day objects. For example, her print ‘Metamorphosis’, which won her the Royal Ulster Academy prize, showed the process of a banana changing from green to brown. Her most recent work is bright and flamboyant and centres on images of the home, primarily the living room.
Jenny has exhibited her work in many galleries across Northern Ireland.
