Laura McGuire’s Biography
Laura’s work expresses an emotional reaction to her surroundings. The feelings of exhilaration, excitement, hope, fear, peace, and most of all being at one with creation drive her to express these sentiments through colour and light, using sketches and drawings from the landscapes as a vehicle.
Water fascinates her – the sea, lakes, rivers and pools reflecting an illusory reality. As she walks in mountains or the city, she feels the ghosts of those who walked there in the past and experienced the same wind, rain, sun and light. They saw the gloaming, which turns the mountain pools electric blue, the descending night of peace and the rising sun, bringing hope of a new day.
Her paintings touch the emotional survival of mankind, as it was, as it is now, and as it will be in the future. Recently she has been intrigued by the changing face of Belfast, where new buildings point to the future and archaeological investigations reveal the past. These pieces are conceived in a sudden flash of excitement and awe and are recorded by quick sketches to capture the essence.
