Paul Watson’s Biography

Paul Watson’s distinctive landscape and seascape oil paintings capture nature’s ‘moods’ under all types of weather conditions.

Striving to evoke nature’s atmospheric effects demands a range of means including: observing nature at first hand; drawing and oil sketching out of doors and photographing scenes. Paul finishes the paintings in the studio often changing compositions or weather conditions for stronger impact or may even contrive scenes and weather effects entirely from his imagination.

Avoiding repetition and formula Paul prefers a ‘Technique of no technique’ whereby each work emerges and does not follow a pre-set style.

Paul is inspired by many of the Old Master painters particularly, Corot, Constable, Courbet, Claude, Delacroix, and Turner.
