Peter Shaw’s Biography

Peter Shaw was born in 1971. He was educated at the University of Ulster at Belfast where he completed a foundation year in Art and Design. Studying Art as main subject he continued his education at Stranmillis Coilege, Belfast, when he received his B.Ed (honours) degree and was awarded the Northern Bank prize for Art and Design.

Peter is a self taught artist. As a realist painter he is concerned largely with the concepts of space and light in relation to the landscape and objects which are part of it.

By reducing the elements within his works, he seeks to heighten atmosphere and mood and draw the viewer into a world where he feels alone and detached, a world where he is drawn into himself, into the private moments, the dark, still recesses of solitude.
