William Docherty Weir’s Biography 1863 - 1903
William Docherty Weir worked in Belfast for the well known firm, David Allen and Sons of London as their chief graphic designer. He was a founder member of The Belfast Ramblers' Sketching Club in 1879, the parent body of the Royal Ulster Academy. Apart from the quality and draughtsmanship of William Docherty Weir’s work, a unique aspect of his work is that he painted for his own personal pleasure. Martyn Anglesea, Keeper of Fine Art, Ulster Museum has described William Docherty Weir as an unjustly neglected artist.
